For most precision measurement you can't beat Starrett products. But they also come with a high price tag. I was introduced to Mitutoyo calipers a few years ago and have used them side by side with the "best" money could buy. They are every bit as accurate and reliable as anything on the market today. Battery life is pretty good as well. The other pair we have in our shop goes through a battery about once every 9-10months being used 5 days a week.
